About Me

My name is Abby (Riesterer) Allen. I was born and raised in Kiel, Wisconsin and moved to Minneapolis in 2005 to attend the University of Minnesota. I graduated in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with an emphasis on Software Design and Usability. I married my husband, Carl, on August 6, 2010 and we moved to the Bay Area two weeks later. We currently live in San Mateo, California, and have a troublesome terrier named Barley.

When not huddled over my desk at Google, I'm probably longing for roller derby, cooking, or sewing. I recently served as the President of the Peninsula Roller Girls, a women's flat track roller derby team based in Redwood City. My derby alter ego is Fibonacci Sequins, #1235. I was also a captain of one of our two home teams, the Psychopathogens. Unfortunately, job hunting and other life commitments has forced me to take a short hiatus from the sport, but I'm looking forward to skating again in 2013.

My weaknesses include polka dot dresses, good dark beer, and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. I find it difficult to throw away comfortable old shoes and I have a hard time buying anything that I can make myself. I get far too creative in the kitchen.

I currently work as a Product Specialist for Google's Online Partnerships Group (OPG). During my first two years at Google, I built tools for AdSense sales and support representatives, including automated email support systems, optimization revenue tracking tools, and a brand new customer relationship management system. I speak Python, Java, MySQL and HTML / CSS / Javascript fluently. However, I've discovered that I'm more passionate about making sure the right software gets built than actually building the software itself. My new role within OPG is more project management focused and my primary goal is to enhance AdSense's fantastic customer support through technical and process improvements. I love my job, but my husband and I are committed to moving back to the Twin Cities by April, 2013. Check out my resume and contact me if you've got a position.
